Everything You Need To Know About Buying A Netbook

Netbook GuideThese days, it seems like everyone has one, and without them most of us would be truly lost. I'm talking about Newbooks, most of us don't leave home without them, and spend a large portion of our lives staring at our netbook screens. Whether they're for work, game playing, entertainment or even staying in touch via facebook, netbooks are an essential part of our modern lives. But, when it comes to buying them, most of us don't have the first clue on what to look for. But, that's where this guide will come in handy. You'll learn everything you need to know about buying a netbook, and choosing the perfect one for you and your computing needs...

Going mobile

No one likes to be tied to a desk, and that's the beauty of a netbook is that you can use it literally anywhere. On the train, plane, bus, in class or even at your local coffee shop. But, when you're on the go the last thing you want to have to worry about is battery life. There's nothing worse than sitting on the train, and then poof your battery dies. Not only do you have to go the rest of your journey without a single thing to do, but, you forgot to save that email you were typing.

So, when choosing your netbook, this is one of the first things you need to look at... battery life. If you're planning on using your netbook on the move, then you're going to need a battery that won't let you down. You'll be amazed at just how long batteries last these days, and you can get anything up to 8 or more hours out of them. That's usually more than enough and should keep you going until you get home to that trusty plug socket. The problem is, your battery life will decrease overtime, and with use, so choosing a netbook with a battery life of just 4 hours could cause you problems later on. So remember, the longer the better.

Getting on-line

If you're able to take your netbook anywhere, but you need a cable to connect to the internet, your netbook isn't doing what it's supposed to, and be mobile. When you're choosing your perfect netbook, make sure you choose one with wireless connection. This will allow you to quickly and easily connect to any broadband signal, no matter where you are.

More and more folks are using mobile 3G dongles to connect to the net everywhere they go. These nifty little USB connectors will enable you to get on-line practically anywhere. Sure, your local coffee shop may have free internet, but you can't guarantee that you'll always be able to pick up a signal. But with nifty little contraptions, you'll be able to get yourself on-line any time you like, where ever you are in the world.

What are you using it for?

Will you be using your netbook for work? Is it to play games with, for music and entertainment, or do you just want to head on-line to brose, check your emails and chat on facebook? Before you choose your netbook, work out exactly what you'll be using it for primarily. If it's for work, you'll probably want a netbook that's running windows and office based software. It's it's for gaming, you'll need a good quality graphics and sound card. And if your using it for music and entertainment, you'll need a good sized memory. Once you've worked these thing out, you'll find it much easier to find the right netbook to suit your individual needs. You'll often find that some netbooks are better for gaming whilst others are geared more towards work or entertainment.

Last but not least... your budget

The last thing you have to think about is how much you want to spend on your new netbook. Computer prices continue to reduce, and you'll find that there are plenty of very affordable machines on the market that will fit your individual criteria. You may be tantalised by extra features, but do you really need them? Stick to your budget as closely as possible, and don't pay for features and software you'll never use.
