Things to Consider When Choosing the Size of Your TV

So you've decided that purchasing an LCD television is the route you'd like to take. The next step is figuring out just what size screen you want in regards to your own personal viewing habits and the actual dimensions of the room your television will be placed in.

Because LCD screens boast a higher pixel per square inch ratio than plasma screens you will be guaranteed a higher resolution that can lead to crisper, cleaner images. This is definitely a plus, but at the same time it means that as the television screen gets bigger the LCD's run into a few difficulties. Having to pack in the additional pixels and transistors result in making light distribution harder as well as getting the best colour reproduction. What this means to you is that should the screen be bigger than 37 inches the images may not be as vibrant as you'd like or what you would experience in a smaller version.

Of course the TV industry is always evolving and looking to improve technology, and in keeping with such there are prototypes coming out that claim to have solved this problem. Yet they aren't on sale at this time and aren't going to be coming into play should you be making your purchase today.  So as of now you will just want to keep in mind that should you wish to expand beyond 37 inches for your LCD.

Outside of simply wanting a bigger screen just for the sake of having well, a bigger screen, as you increase this size you will then want to be viewing your TV from a further distance away. The reason for this is more than following the old advice of not sitting too close to the screen for the sake of your eyes, but in fact to get the best experience from your TV. Because of the high pixel content of LCD's if you are sitting too close then the images may appear dotted or grainy; but should you simply step back the picture will look fantastic.

So in keeping with this, think of how much space you have in the room for which you are intending to put your TV and then adjust knowing how much distance from the screen you would want to sit in order for optimum viewing pleasure.

If you are going to go with a screen that is between 20 and 27 inches you will want to be at least 2.5 feet from the screen and at the same time be less than 5 feet away. If you increase the size to between 32 and 37 inches you will want to be between 3 and 8 feet from the TV. For LCD's that are between 42 and 46 inches you will then want to be positioned between 10 and 14 feet away. Finally, if you are going with a 50 inch TV this will mean you should be between 12 and 16 feet back.

Many factors go into just how big you want the size of your LCD to be and a big one will be at what distance from the actual screen you intend to sit. This means that you need to consider the room's area to ensure that you aren't picking out a size that is too big or small for your living space.
