Top 6 Tips When Buying Your New TV

If you're like most folks, buying a new TV is like walking into a minefield. In a world where there are just so many TV options to choose from, finding the perfect TV is a big decision. Although larger screen TVs continue to fall in price, this is still a pretty big investment (depending on your the size you go for). So, it's essential that you answer the following 6 questions before you head on-line to find that perfect wide screen. Read on to find out more...

1) What is your budget?

First things first, you need to establish just how much money you have to spend on your new television. It's a good idea deciding on this before start looking on-line, and it's equally important that you stick to this original amount. The make, size and picture quality will all affect the price, and setting out with a sum in mind will help you work out what is, and what isn't in your price range. There are an extremely wide range of TVs available at the moment, and you'll soon find that there are plenty available within your budget.

2) What size?

Once again, the amount of money you have to spend will dictate the size you end up choosing for your home. Then it comes to screen size, bigger doesn't automatically mean better. The larger cheaper television will usually have a reduced screen quality, whilst the smaller more expensive sets may have a crystal clear picture quality. Try to hit the middle ground, and find the largest TV with the best screen quality in your price range. You may find that you end up sacrificing a few inches in the process, but the picture quality will be well worth it in the long run.

3) Plasma or LCD?

For most TV buyers this choice comes down to their own personal preference, and what they will be primarily using their television for. Both LCD and plasma screens have their own list of pros and cons, and most will agree, there is no clear winner between the two. Plasma screens are usually larger and will often provide more vibrant and crisp colours, whilst LCD screens are lighter and are more energy efficient.

4) Where is your new TV going?

Another thing you need to think about is... where is your new TV going? If it's going to be used in your living room, will it be wall mounted, or will you use a TV stand? TV stands will customarily take up more space, but whilst wall mounting will save you some valuable inches, this kind of installation can be tricky. So, be sure to figure out these details first.

5) Do you have enough space?

After you've chosen how to store your television, you need to think whether you have a enough space in the room. When it comes to those larger screens, there is an idea distance that you should leave between the screen and your sofa. These will vary from set to set, but if you sit too close, you may not be getting the best out of your new TV. If it's a large screen that you fancy, make sure you have enough room in your home. Find out the idea distance from the screen you should be sitting a measure out the space. This may require a little furniture reshuffling, so go grab your tape measure.

6) What are you going to do with your old TV?

This might be the last thing on your mind, but it's certainly worth some early consideration. Will you be moving it to another room, giving it to a friend, or throwing it away? Before you decide, you could think about selling it. This will not only solve this problem, but the cash you make could be put towards your new TV. And jumping from 46" to a 50" won't cost you a penny.
